5 NFL Surprises So Far

The Patriots Trade Randy Moss: Sure, he's in the last year of his contract, and he's 33 years old, but Randy Moss is the type of player that struck fear into the heart of defense, the kind of player that opposing defenses based their whole game plan around. In his 3 years at New England, he had over 1,00 yards each year, and a total of 47 touchdowns (including the record breaking 23 touchdown season).

Peyton Hillis: A Fullback being used as the number one running back on an NFL squad, and actually doing well? Has Mike Alstott been reincarnated in this kid? He has 4 touchdowns in 5 games, 350 rushing and 140+ receiving yards (144 rushing yards against the Ravens, the Ravens!)

NFC West and the 49ers: If you had asked me at the beginning of the season, who I predicted to win the NFC West, I would have claimed the 49ers, merely by default, would come out on top. But here we are going into week 6, and the 49ers have not won a single game. No one in their right mind (unless they are merely lying) could have saw this debacle before the season started. Perhaps the most hilarious aspect of it all, is that San Fransisco still has a chance to win the division. Yeah, mindboggling.

Michael Vick, is back in Style: This is another I could not have predicted, but still enjoy watching unfold. Before the season, when Mcnabb was traded and all the talk of Kolb Vs Vick, my clear cut thoughts revolved around a supposed talented pocket passer with Kolb. I had always enjoyed watching Vick play, and he has been a play maker (though only on his feet), I just did not think he brought enough legitimate quarterback skill to the table. What a mistake that was, when Kolb got knocked out of the game, Vick reappeared with both the speed on his feet from his early days, but also the ability to throw the ball accurately and win football games. He just recently got hampered by an injury, and Kolb should be back in this week. If Vick gets a chance to come back as the starter, then he should only continue his reign as Vick 2.0.

Vikings/Colts/Saints 3rd in their division: Vikings are suffering from injuries to Sidney Rice and others, while Favre is in the middle of a major slump. Indianapolis has half the defense out with injuries, a long with sub par line blocking and the shuffling of wide receivers due to injuries. The Saints have injury problems as well, with Sharper, Bush and thomas, among others, and their offense has failed to put up as many points as before. Whatever the reason, these 3 normally dominant teams find themselves in the midst of some of the most competetive divisions in the league.

Rookie Impact Players Up Through Week 5

Every Year in the NFL, rookie players utilize their talent and athleticism to make an impact on their teams as soon as they step on the field. Let's look into some rookie players who have made an impact so far this year:

Jahvid Best
This rookie running back on the Detroit Lions has shown he has what it takes to be a speedy play maker. He had 4 rushing touchdowns through the first 2 games, and while recently struggled with an injury, he had 5 rushing Tds overall, and one recieving TD.

Mike Williams

Mike Williams catches has acclimated well to the pro level, as he already has 3 touchdowns through 5 games. Even as a rookie, he gives Tampa Bay a legitimate threat for the endzone.

Tony Moeaki

Moeaki is becoming a pivotal piece of the Chiefs offense, and a valuable weapon for Matt Cassel. Moeaki has two touchdown catches through 4 games (Chiefs has their bye already), and two receptions of 20+ yards.

Ndamukong Suh

Suh is quickly becoming a dominant defensive force for the Detroit Lions. Playing Defensive tackle, through 5 games, he has  18 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 passes defended, and 1 interception that he returned 20 yards.

Nate Allen

Safety Nate Allen of the Philadelphia Eagles is showing off his coverage skills, among others, in his rookie year as he has ammased 18 total tackles, 1 sack, 9 passes defended, and 3 interceptions.

Earl Thomas

Free Safety Earl Thomas is making an impact on the Seattle Seahawks, while racking up 23 total tackles, 6 passes defended, and 3 interceptions.
