September 25, 2010
Conseco Fieldhouse,
Indianapolis, Indiana, United States
 *Main card*

Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard
Record: 25 - 8 - 2

Details: A heavy handed puncher, coming off 2 wins in a row, Guillard loves power shots, and will attempt to land them all fight long. Guillard has great take down defense, and this fight should be a stand up war.
VS
Jeremy "Lil' Heathen" Stephens

Record: 17  -  5  -  0

Details: Stephens, like Guillard has immense power in his hands and is coming off a 2 fight win streak. He's never been KOd or TKOd in his career, and is always looking to finish the fight.

Prediction: Jeremy "Lil' Heathen" Stephens
Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk

Record: 32  -  4  -  1

Details: While Sean Sherk is coming off a loss to Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, he has not fought for ever a year, but hopes to get back to business this Saturday. His skill set supports good wrestling ability and inside striking and a good top game, and good take downs.
 VS
 Evan Dunham

Record: 11  -  0  -  0

Details: Undefeated Dunham is looking to be the one of most promising young fighters of the UFC. 6 of his 11 victories come by the way of submission, 3 ending in the first round. Dunham has great grappling skills and top control and good reach.

Prediction:  Evan Dunham
Matt "The Terror" Serra

Record: 11  -  6  -  0

Details: Former UFC Welterweight titlle holder Serra, is coming off a win against Frank Trigg. He has devastating power if he connects properly, and is also a BJJ black belt.
VS
Chris "Lights Out" Lytle
Record: 29 - 17 - 5

Details: Lytle is coming off a 3 fight win streak, and 20 of his 29 victories come by some way of submission. Lytle, a veteran fighter, fights to please the fans, and usually goes all out just to put on a show.

Prediction: Matt "The Terror" Serra
Antonio Rogerio "Minotoro" Nogueira

Record: 19 - 3 - 0

Details: Nogueira is coming off a 7 fight win streak going into his fight with Bader. Nogueira is a tough, durable fighter with the heart for a come from behind win. He can employ opportunistic submissions and brutal knees.
VS
 Ryan "Darth" Bader

Record: 11 - 0 - 0

Details: Undefeated Bader is likely contending with a shot at the light heavyweight title with a win in this fight. He can use his size as an advantage and utilize good power, ability to control his opponent, and top game.

Prediction:  Ryan "Darth" Bader
Frank Mir
Record: 13 - 5 - 0
Details: Mir is coming off a disappointing loss to Shane Carwin. 8 of Mir's career wins have come by some form of submission, and he is very dangerous on the mat.
VS
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic

Record: 27  -  7  -  2

Details: Cro Crop is coming off a 2 fight win steak in the UFC. Filipovic is widely known as one of the most devastating strikers in MMA history, but he has slowed down a lot since his PRIDE days. He still has good striking ability, though he needs to maintain his take down defense to be effective.

UFC Fight Night 22 Results

Ross "The Real Deal" Pearson VS Cole "Magrinho" Miller
Result: The fight was fairly back and forth until just over a minute into the second round where Miller caught Pearson with a powerful shot that sent him to the canvas, where he slapped on a rear naked choke to seal the deal.

Cole "Magrinho" Miller victory via round 2 submission

Jim Miller VS Gleison Tibau
Result:  In this three round fight, Jim Miller clearly landed the heavier and cleaner punches in the stand up, and dealed the significant damage to Tibau. He was aggressive and stuck to his gameplan.

Jim Miller victory via unanimous decision

Efrain Escudero VS Charles "do Bronx" Oliveira

Result: The fight was back and forth, and towards the end, both fighters were hit with a groin shot. First Escudero was kicked by Oliveira and had to take a minute to recover, then later when Escudero had Oliviera up against the cage, he hit him directly in the groin with a fierce knee, that left Oliviera on the ground in pain for several minutes. Remarkably when he agreed to continue, he looked enraged and quickly started attacking aggressively. He attacked with a variety of knees and punches untill he eventually caught Escudero in a scramble, slipped on to his back while he was standing and sunk in a choke.

Charles "do Bronx" Oliveira victory via 3rd round submission

Nate "The Great" Marquardt VS Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares

Result: This main fight was even up until late in the first when during a scramble on the mat, Palhares grabbed Nate's leg for a submission and Nate simply slipped out of it. At that point, to everyone's sunrise, Palhares turned his head while laying on the mat (as Nate rose up) and pointed to Nate's leg saying something about him having greased. At that point Nate dove on him with a heavy right hand that shocked Palhares and Nate continued with punches from the top until it was called. (Palhares later apologized for accusing him, as Nate was checked before and after the fight)

Nate "The Great" Marquardt victory via 1st round TKO

UFC 118 Results and Analysis

Saturday night in Boston made way for some interesting fights, with the latest "Boxing VS MMA" dispute being settled (for now), and the lightweight belt being retained by its owner. Lets look at the results of the fight card:

Nate Diaz VS Marcus Davis
Results: Diaz performed well in this fight, showing from the beginning he was superior to Davis (and Diaz knew it). He out boxed "The Irish Hand Grenade", beating the side of his face and cutting him pretty good, up until late in the 3rd round where he slapped on a nice guillotine.

Analysis: Marcus Davis looked slow in comparison to Diaz, whose stand up was more effective. Diaz beat him up and wore him out until just minutes from the end of the 3rd when Diaz locked in the submission.

Nate Diaz via 3rd Round Submission

Kenny Florian VS Gray Maynard
Results: Florian had no answer for Maynard's impressive wrestling as he was repeatedly taken down and pout pointed en route to a Unanimous Decision.

Analysis: Florian looked far from impressive last night, and seemingly had no way to alter his game plan around Maynards wrestling. Maynard gets a title shot with Frankie Edgar following this win.

Gray Maynard via Unanimous Decision

 Demian Maia VS Mario Miranda

Results: Maia tried a few times to finish the fight, utilizing his great BJJ skill set, but was unable as he rode superior grappling to a Unanimous Decision.

Analysis: Miranda, a solid striker, simply could not get around Maia's grappling and wrestling. He did fight off numerous submission attempts, but could not earn the win.

 Demian Maia via Unanimous Decicion

Randy Couture VS James Toney

Results: Within the opening seconds, Randy Couture shot for a low take down, and Toney just kind of fell over. After that Couture utilized some ground and pound before locking in an easy arm triangle, and his simplest pay day ever.

Analysis: There isn't really much to be said about this fight. Anyone who saw it going any other way then what happened last night was either sniffing glue or James Toney himself.

Randy Couture via 1st Round Submission

Frankie Edgar VS BJ Penn
Results: The fight resembled much of the previous match up, except with Edgar looking more dominant. he utilized take downs and effective boxing, as well as good defensive wrestling to win a unanimous decision.

Analysis: Once again, BJ did not seem to have anything for Edgar, and it seemed that just like last time, he spent way too much of the fight tentative and waited much too long to try to take the fight to the ground, which he seemingly couldn't handle anyway.

Frankie Edgar via Unanimous Decicion
